Where was Harrison Burgess when he viewed Joseph Smith in vision with the Savior?

A)                 The Nauvoo Temple

B)                 Joseph Smith’s Red Brick Store in Nauvoo

C)                 The Newell K. Whitney Store

D)                 The Kirtland Temple

Yesterday’s answers:

1.      (C) Palmyra, New York.  It’s assumed by some that these four church’s were there at the time of Joseph Smith. This isn’t the case; in fact this corner didn’t have any church there when the Smith family resided in nearby Manchester. The Western Presbyterian Church (the church that Lucy Mack Smith, Hyrum, Samuel, and Sophronia attended) was the closest to this corner being just down the hill (approximately ½ a block) from the church on the northeast corner. This would explain why Alvin Smith is buried directly across the street from what used to be the Presbyterian Church.

2.      (A)  Nauvoo, Illinois.  If you go to Nauvoo and look across the Mississippi River where the missionaries and different BYU groups perform “Sunset on the Mississippi” each evening (you don’t want to miss this great production—it’s a lot of fun), the river is extremely wide. This is due to the dam that was built at Keokuk, Iowa. It wasn’t always like this. In fact, in the days of Nauvoo, the river ran fast causing the more heavily laden paddle wheelers to drop their cargo off at one end of Main street, then have the cargo moved by ox team to the other end of Main street where the river boat would reload it’s cargo continuing its journey on the Mississippi.
