c. Military Officers
c. James Bennet
James Arlington Bennet was Joseph Smith’s first choice as Vice Presidential candidate in 1844. Mr. Bennet’s reason for declining the nomination was not the truth.
Although he informed Joseph Smith that he was born in Ireland and therefore was ineligible to be Vice-President of the United States, James Arlington Bennet was born after his parents immigrated to America in June 1788.
