Why Only Three Women?

William Clayton in his Journal on April 16, 1847 states that there were 143 men and boys, but only 3 women in the first company of Saints to head out to the Salt Lake Valley. Why only three women?
a.                  They needed that many to cook for the men
b.                  Lorenzo Young’s wife had asthma and the other two were sent to keep her company
c.                   They wanted the Relief Society Presidency established in the Salt Lake Valley
d.                  They were sent to teach school
Yesterday’s answer:
(D)   A counterfeit press
Bill Hickman, who was an aide to Brigham Young had to destroy a counterfeit press in Winter Quarters.
