The first stake organized in Colorado was in 1883 at Manassa and named the San Luis Stake. The most famous Latter-day Saint to come out of Manassa, Colorado was a man known as the Manassa Mauler. None other than Jack Dempsey, the onetime heavy weight boxing champion of the world.
