(C) He would rather die than preach the gospel
The last act of Algernon Sidney Gilbert, was the drafting and signing of a letter to Governor Dunklin of Missouri, for he was attacked with the cholera the same day, and died a few days later. He had been called to preach the Gospel, but had been known to say that he “would rather die than go forth to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles.” Heber C. Kimball later remarked, “The Lord took him at his word.”
