Which State came to the rescue of Utah and helped it gain Statehood?
When Washington County was first formed in 1852 there was very little population. The only town in southern Utah in this county at the time was Harmony. To make up for the lack of population this county was formed with boundaries extending with California on the west all the way to Kansas on the east. The county measured 800 miles in length, but only 50 miles wide.
