Coal Consumption

Those Saints that crossed the ocean on the old sailing ships could expect them to travel anywhere from 8 to 12 miles an hour. The steam ships increased this to 16 miles an hour. However, as with any improvement, there is generally a cost associated with the change. In the case of the steam ship it was coal consumption. How many tons of coal did one of these steamers consume in a 24 hour period?
a.          1 ton
b.75 tons
