Just like the book of Abraham, so the “Moses material” saw bits and pieces written in such periodicals as The Evening and Morning Star and the Times and Seasons in addition to the Lectures on Faith. At the time that the Pearl of Great Price was first published in 1851, there were only extracts of the Book of Moses, but did not have a title. It wasn’t until the 1878 edition that the first chapter was given a title, known as the “Visions of Moses” and the remainder of the “Moses material” entitled the “Writings of Moses.”  In 1902, Elder James Talmadge titled this section of the Pearl of Great Price the “Book of Moses.” This title remained until 1981 when it was named “Selections from the Book of Moses.”
