Who referred to the Saints as the “Pick and flower of England?”
a. Charles Dickens
b. Sir Richard Burton
c. Sir Winston Churchill
d. Queen Victoria
b. John Tanner
Many financial sacrifices were called on in order to make the Kirtland Temple a reality. Saints in the United States and Canada were invited to make contributions and many did so at great personal sacrifice. Vienna Jacques was one of the first to donate, giving much of her material resources. John Tanner loaned money to pay for the temple site and then sold his twenty-two-hundred-acre farm in New York in order to give three thousand dollars to buy supplies. He continued to give until he had given almost all he owned.
