The following is in reference to the Nauvoo Temple.
The Mormons had hoped to sell the temple too finance their journey. Though there was interest, there were no buyers. One newspaper peddled the idea of a purchase: “If any wealthy individual can be found who has a thirst for immortality he can shake it by purchasing this great edifice for some literary, religious or charitable institution.”
