From the life of Charles Sperry:   It was a dry looking country we settled in. The land looked like it hadn’t been wet in twenty years. We went to work making adobe houses. All the adobes that we made were eighteen inches long, nine inches wide, and four inches thick. It was as much as a man wanted to do to lift one.
