The Surprising News at the October 1849 General Conference

There have been a number of surprising announcements at General Conferences through the years. All the way from new temple announcements, to sending 18-year olds on missions, to football scores over the pulpit. What was the surprising announcement from the October 1849 General Conference?
a.                  The Building of a temple in Salt Lake City
b.                  Announcing those who will go on full-time missions
c.                   Announcing the United Order
d.                  Announcing the reformation of the Relief Society
Yesterday’s answer:
c.   His Bible
The following from the Woman’s Exponent, July 15, 1885: To say that the Edmunds Bill has become a law does not signify that it is a constitutional law. He may just as well draft a bill making it a penalty of fine and imprisonment to believe in the Bible, for every sane man knows that the people of God practiced polygamy, and they were commanded to do so according to the history of Abraham and Jacob who served seven years for Rachel, the mother of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt, which I proof positive that God sanctioned and blessed this union of polygamous marriage. Has God changed? Who has the authority to say He has? Surely Mr. Edmunds has never read his Bible, for it says He changeth not; and Jesus says, “Judge not; with that judgment you judge, you shall be judged.”
