(A) October 1848
At the Eighteenth General Conference of the church held in the log tabernacle on April 6, 1848—during which Miller’s Hollow was officially renamed Kanesville in honor of Thomas L. Kane—the sustaining of Brigham Young as Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was officially rendered. The assembled Saints in the British Isles likewise sustained the action in August, as did those back in the City of the Salt Lake in October, “there being about five thousand people in the valley by that time.”
