President Joseph F. Smith was not keen on the lighter employments. What one employment listed below is not considered “lighter?”
a.                  Doctor
b.                  Mechanic
c.                   Lawyer
d.                  Trade
Yesterday’s answer:
(C)   Because of Deserets religious connotations
Brigham hoped that the State of Deseret would join the United States under that name, but even from the Mormon’s initial requests for statehood, many American politicians objected to the name because of its religious connotations. By the 1870s, the Saints finally gave up the quest and agreed to the name of Utah, mandated by Washington.
